Jon Bjork was born December 26 1978 in the small Swedish town Ljusdal, started playing January 12 1993.
My initial influence was if u could believe...Kirk Hammet of Metallica, but that soon changed upon hearing Yngwie Malmsteen for the first time.
Since I practiced quite alot from the moment I picked up the guitar I progressed fairly quickly, I also got a lot of help from my Dad who had played semi-professional jazzguitar for 20 years.
He showed me how to alternate pick almost from day one and insisted that I learned to read music.
I found myself gravitating towards technically advanced players like Steve Vai, Al DiMeola, Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore and Tony Macalpine for the first year and a half of playing.
Spending almost all my time practicing technique, especially my Alternate-Picking.
That changed however when an older extremely musical friend made me realize that technique only was part of the picture.
He showed me players like Steve Lukather, Robben Ford, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Scott Henderson (whom he´d actually played drums with in his bluesband while a student at P.I.T).
Because of the new influences I was inspired to learn about and practice other styles besides the Neo-classical/shred I was into before, while still developing my chops.
In September-95 I went to Hollywood to attend G.I.T, where I had the chance to study with great players like Brett Garsed, T.J Helmerich and Scott Henderson.
I found myself very impressed with some of the students as well, and it was a great learning experience to be able to play with people who was so much better than me.
In September-96 I returned to Sweden and started a instrumental band.
The summer of -98 I moved with my gf to Stockholm (swedens capital) and in the end of the same year I met the singer of my current band Mankind.
Currently I´m taking lessons from my new big influence George Bellas, and spends as much time as possible practicing and composing.
